Valentine’s Fun

by on Feb.16, 2011

For Valentine’s Day this year Avery and I decided we would make our Valentine’s. My mom found this cute little robot on this website. We thought they were cute so we decided to make them. I asked Avery if she would write her name on the back of each one while I made the robots.

Look at what a good job she did at writing her name!

She was having a great time writing her name, but it didn’t last long. She ended up writing her name on about five of them and then started drawing pictures instead.

Here is our finished product. I think they turned out really cute.

These are all the Valentine’s for her school friends.

At the beginning of the school year I had signed up to help at Avery’s school for their Valentine’s Day party. On Monday morning we got up and got dressed in our Valentine colors (Avery is wearing her dress that she got from Grandma Call for Valentine’s Day) and headed off to Avery’s school. Kaden and I sat in the back of the room and observed until it was time to help with the craft. It was so much fun to see Avery interacting with her classmates and see the fun things that they do in school.

The craft that they did was decorating bags to put their Valentine’s in. Here is Avery peeling the backs off of her heart stickers to put them on her bag.

When they were all done decorating their bags they got to go over to the rug and read stories until it was time to pass out their Valentine’s. Avery did such a good job at following directions!

Here is Kaden talking with one of the girls in Avery’s class. He was loving all of the attention!

Avery got to be the first one to pass her Valentine’s out. Here she is putting a Valentine in her friends bag.

When she was done she sat quietly while her friends passed their Valentine’s out. She is so excited about all of the treats she is getting.

Then she decided that she no longer wanted the hearts on her bag so she peeled them off and put them on her dress.

Kaden was such a good boy the whole time we were there.

After preschool we went and visited Grandma Christiansen for a little while and then went to pick daddy up from work. We had decided that we would take the kids out to dinner for Valentine’s Day. We had gift certificates for Outback Steakhouse so we decided to go there.

We arrived there at about 5:15 and they told us the wait was one hour and thirty minutes. That was okay with us because both kids were asleep in the car so we let them sleep and we attempted to watch a show on Hulu. The internet connection was not very good so that did not work so well.

We decided to go inside and wait for them to call our name at around six o’ clock. It was a good thing that we went in when we did because they called our name within five minutes.

We took a couple of pictures using Skyler’s phone of our date. Warning they are not great pictures, but they are memories so here they are.

Avery’s First Dentist Visit

by on Feb.08, 2011

I have been telling Avery for the past couple of weeks that she gets to go to the dentist soon; she has been so excited! Today when I woke her up she said, “Yay, I get to go to the dentist today!” (I wish I was that excited to go to the dentist!)

We arrived about 30 minutes early because I had just picked the kids up from my Sister0in-law’s house in Riverton and headed straight there. When we walked in Avery immediately started playing with the toys while I filled out her paperwork. They called me back for my appointment first so Avery could see how brave mom is and she would know what to expect. When my teeth were all clean and sparkly we walked over to the kid room for Avery’s cleaning. the room was full of monkey’s hanging form the ceiling.

The nurse started by showing Avery all of the tools and the neat things they do. First she showed her “Windy”, the tool that blows air. Then she showed her the spinning toothbrush, I can’t remember the name, she showed her that it kind of tickles on our teeth. Next was “Mr. Sprinkler”, he likes to squirt water in our mouths. Next came “Mr. Thirsty”, he is always thirsty and wants to suck up all of the water in our mouths.

The last two things she showed her were the mirror, which she let Avery hold for the dentist, and the tooth counter.

The nurse turned on a “Strawberry Shortcake” movie for Avery to watch. She loved the headphones.

The nurse brought in Cookie Dough toothpaste to use on Avery’s teeth. Avery thought that was the coolest thing and she keeps telling me that she wants some of that at home!

After Avery’s teeth were all clean and sparkly the Dr. Loose came in to count her teeth and check for cavities. He used the “tooth counter” and found that she has 20 teeth. Unfortunately he also found 2 cavities. They are very small so he does not think they will need to give her any S-H-O-T-S.

When she was all done she got a cute princess toothbrush, which she was very excited about, and she got to pick a prize out of the prize box for being so good!

Avery had a great time at the dentist. I hope all of our dentist visits go this well. (With how well she behaved not the cavity thing!).
